“ The capacity to be enlightened isn’t something that someone else can offer to you. A teacher can only help you to remove the nonenlightened elements in you so that enlightenment can be revealed. If you have confidence that beauty, goodness, and the true teacher are in you, and if you take refuge in them, you will practice in a way that reveals these qualities more clearly each day. ”

It’s been a year since I left for India. I hold India in my mind every day and feel it in my soul as I go through life here in the States. I miss the community I made in the midst of the poverty, as well as the language, the sounds, the colors, the tastes, and even the smells. I hope to go back some day soon, but until then, I will be here, sitting, thinking, and praying for my friends across the world.
